blog hop - summer fun with Craftwell and Xyron

Hey everyone, In honor of my birthday being last weekend on FLAG DAY I was feeling inspired to create a little something patriotic for our home. I wanted to make something that would sit on our mantel and this turned out to be a great addition, do you like it?

These are the supplies I started with - my ebosser which I also used to cut all of my little white stars and the WOOD GRAIN Folder and (Star folder - I did not end up using the star folder as I had planned), adhesive from Xyron, a craft star shaped box, a wood candle holder that I painted with red glitter paint and finally some red, white and blue paper.

First I embossed my red, white and blue papers using the Wood Grain Folders - I wanted my flag to look like it had movement and this was just PERFECT for this effect. I cut my red and white strips 1/2". My home is very "rustica" so I ended up inking the edges so it would fit in with my decor. Now you can see in this photo I adhered my stripes from the center, using the Xyron Glue stick - truly when adhering to chipboard, you can't go wrong with a good glue stick. I just kept alternating my stripes then trimmed them off when I was done. Then I added the blue on the opposite side.

I loved being able to cut all my stars but to adhere them is easiest when you have a sticker maker, it makes it super quick!!

Here is my finished project, I tied it with a little burlap bow to finish it off.

I hope you enjoyed todays project! ~Cheri

Blog hop Summer Fun with Xyron and Craftwell!

Hey everyone! If you follow me you know I do a tumbler of the month project with my Starbucks tumblers. I thought this blog hop was perfect to go with my new star flag themed tumbler this month.

To start my project I embossed one sheet of red, white and blue card stock using the WOOD GRAIN embossing folders. Then I used some white scrap paper and cut mini stars (photo of mini stars below) Once I embossed my blue paper, I cut the bases of my stars using three different dies - all at the same time! This is one of the perks of having a larger machine, you can cut many things all at the same time!!

Here you can see some of the supplies I used. I trimmed all of my red and white stripes 1/4" then adhered them to my star using my Xryon 1/4" tape runner. Then I adhered all of my mini white stars using my Teresa Collins sticker maker. It's so great for those little pieces!!

I embossed a piece of dark metal gray paper using the startburst folder, traced my template onto the paper and trimmed it up, then adhered all of my finished stars on to my starburst paper.

I love how the wood grain embossed paper looks like it is moving, it's just perfect!!

Cherinspirations - Teresa Collins Sequins - Tip and tricks - 1a

Have you ever been knee deep in a project and darn if you don't spend more time trying to get the sequin off your finger than on the project itself?? Some days that's just how I feel. I LOVE using sequins but man of life that static cling is annoying, especially when your glue dries before you can put it on your project, right?!? So, I have a SOLUTION for you! Yes, it's a little trick I figured out...

Cherinspirations - Teresa Collins Sequins - Tip and tricks - 2

We all have those plastic containers that we get our washi tape in from Teresa Collins - right!? Anyways, take your washi out and store it somewhere else. Now, just spray a LITTLE spray of some static guard, like count to ONE, just a little is all you need, you don't want to drown your sequins or discolor them in any way or have a residue on them. TRUST me, I did all of the experimenting for you. ;) **Be quick and do not over saturate metal sequins - if you use too much they will have a residue that is not pretty - just saying... Yes, of course it happened to me and I lost the whole sparkly bag during my experiment, however, if you use just a tiny spray - again just count to one and you should be fine.

Now quickly put your sequins in your container and give it a shake, like count to ten.

Then pour them out onto a piece of scratch paper and let the static guard finish evaporating. see, no residue!! And VOILA no more static cling!! Now you can put them in what ever container you use.

To adhere my sequins I like to use the liquid adhesive that comes in her Xyron adhesive kit.

I just add a little dab of the liquid glue and then layer my sequins on and done!!

An Altered box mini album tutorial using the new collection Hello My Name Is collection by Teresa Collins

Hey everyone!! I am so excited to share this with you today!! This is a little project I made for the CHA booth using the new collection "Hello My Name Is".  I've had a lot of people ask me what my favorite of the new collections is and that's a hard one to answer because I LOVE them all for different reasons.

This collection inspires me to share my story. This project I made is for my daughter to share her story, where she is now in life and I can't wait for her to write in it!!

FIRST, I want to share with you how I MADE this box into a book!!

ok, so I'll start from left to right - the first photo shows you that it is a craft colored, Graphic45 matchbook box. They come in three sizes and this is the middle sized one (8x8). The second photo shows the box that slides out and I cut the left side off!! Then I just cut the right side of the frame on the outer box which allowed it to open. NOW when you SCORE the left side you need to know that this will become your "SPINE", don't cut all of the way through as it will ruin it so go slooooooow and take your time. And last but not least create a template for your binding rings. I cut a strip the same height as the box and then folded it in half and used my cinch to create the holes where they needed to be. Then I spray painted it all in bright white. YOU could cover it in paper, mod podge it, what have you. Right now I'm just loving white paint on everything so there ya go! :)

So now you need to figure out how to fasten it closed. Starting from top left - I used one of the foam squares from the Teresa Collins Adhesive kits Those black foam squares are super dense so they are perfect for this!! So poke a hole where you want your "knob" add a foam square to one of the largest brads - by adding the foam square it will give the brad some height and because the legs of the brad are so long it will go through both the foam and the cover as shown in picture two (top right). Ok, so now you need to adhere your ribbon to the inside of the outer box line it up with your knob so it will close correctly. Then Adhere the smaller box on top of your ribbon lining up the top and bottom of the boxes evenly. Now when you close the book you can wrap the ribbon around your knob!

I loved the "words" paper so I cut strips and used them as my "staple" throughout this book. Have you seen the new photo overlays????? I love the sayings on them!! I added one of the new GEMS on the decorative tape. This page is actually 12" wide - I folded it to create a flap page!

This is the flap page. I cut a strip of journal cards and added them to the flap page by folding them then tied them together. So when untied, they fold out like an accordion.

Here is the page all folded out - I used a photo on the back of the flap then added a journal card and ephemera piece on the side I am going to have her journal.

This is one of the new 4 x 6 journal cards from the "love" paper - I love these!! I added some decorative tape to the left and a clear gem to the top center of it, So so simple!

Ok, at first glance you may not recognize ALL that you are looking at here so I'm going to point it out... That is a 5x7 photo overlay, but I ONLY had a 4x6 photo! Well, no  problem they don't have to be only for your photos. I added a piece of card stock to my page, added my photo then added my photo overlay. (sorry, It's hard to photograph them!)

This is the back page and I love all of the layers for journaling!!

I think this is my "FAVORITE" overlay!! ok, pun intended! Seriously though I do LOVE it!!!

I thought this was a fun page to share - the top paper is called "tags" and the bottom paper is called "Polaroids". Again - a great place to add more photos if you like or just use as journaling spots.

Here's another page with an accordion tag fold out tied with ribbon. I liked all of the layers in this book!! I hope you are as inspired as I am!!

When you are all done with your pages use your template from earlier to punch your pages. Add your cinch rings from the inside down on the right side of holes and up on the left, add your pages then pinch them together and your done!!

You can see here how the spine looks! So, go create one of your own! They are a fun to make and it's something you will treasure!!
